My W6RTW Web Site

I think you may be tired of my description of my revised website. This is probably because it was revised a few years ago! So now it is just my W6RTW Web Site. Besides Ham Radio, I have also added things about my other Hobby, R/C Airplane flying. Of course, being a Ham, I fly on 6 Meter frequencies.

The Links to the left are some of my favorites. The top set of links are Ham Radio Links. The bottom set are Radio Control Links. I might mention, the bottom two links in the Ham Radio Section are very informative and useful. For any of you frequenting the Amps Reflector on Contesting.com, and the Amps Group on Yahoo Groups, these two guys (Rich and Tom) have at least a 10 year {feud?} going on. You can find all the gory details at each of their sites. HOWEVER, both sites offer so much valuable information about Amplifiers, and other things that you might find them worth your time to investigate. The old news in this ongoing feud is that Rich has been banned from the Amps Reflector and he started his own Amplifier Group on Yahoo Groups. Both are worth checking out. If you understand the basis of the feud, then my quote below will make sense to you.

"I wonder if Tom considered Rich a 'parasite' on the Amps Reflector?"

The items below are brief updates about what's going on in my world. The date at the bottom of each item is the last time it was updated. Look around and enjoy yourself. If you have any comments or suggestions, please email me. Remember that this site will always be under construction.

NEWS:

March 20, 2011 - My shack is an absolute mess. I have let my lack of attention to detail get away from me! I did get my Kenwood TM-V7A going and ready to install in the mobile. I hope to have it installed by Wednesday. Just need to get some big fuse holders to install under the hood. I will let you know when it is in.

June 30, 2011 - I finally got my Tarheel's 160 thru 6 mobile screwdriver antenna mounted on my Ford Ranger. I will start a picture page for my mobile installation. As of now, just the antenna is mounted. Still working out the radio installation. Wgo ever said I was "Fast" at anything. I'm not even "Half-Fast" but when it's done, it will be good!

September 30, 2011 - I have decided I have lost my mind. I think my fellow Ham friends are corrupting me. Since I got my Drake 2B and 2BQ, I now have an R4B, T4XB, MS4 and AC4. Why am I going backwards from all solid state (not including Amplifiers) to all tube (valve) radios? They sure do look and sound nice though!

November 22, 2011 - As I get older today, I want to wish all my fellow Hams a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season! Peace on Earth to All.

January 12, 2012 - My dear old friend, Mark Conway, K6GUK passed away today. He was 99 years old. He wanted to make it to 100 which would have been on February 21st. Rest in Peace Mark. K6GUK de W6RTW .. SK

February 22, 2012 - Went to the Yuma Hamfest and Southwest Division Convention last weekend. My Wife and I had a great time. It was fun just getting out of town for a couple days!

I just picked up a Drake 2B Receiver today, July 1, 2010. I had one of these when I was a newly minted General back in Illinois. I have a piece of history in my shack. I now have a matching Drake 2BQ Q-Multiplier/Speaker, 2AC 100KHz Calibrator and the 2LF Lowband (160 Meter) Converter. So, my vintage receiver collection is complete!

Or so I thought. I now have a Drake B Line. Pictures are coming soon.

Dayton HamventionDayton, 2011 is now history. I was not able to attend this year because my Mother-in-Law is out here visiting. I haven't heard much about what was new at Dayton. I did hear that the sewage system backed up onto the arena floor! I am glad I missed that. Maybe we will give it a go next year.

Tower Saga It's really not a saga. It really is my procrastination. Since this has been going on so long, I am moving any progress and discussion to my "Antenna" and/or "Tower Installation" Pages.

Southern California Hamfests One of the nice things about living in Southern California is that there is always a hamfest going on. Here are the current regular, every month hamfests:

Second Saturday - Cable Airport, Upland, CA (off Foothil Ave) Not the greatest in the world, but on occasion a good bargin can be found.

Third Saturday - Chino Hills H.S., Chino Hills, CA (off 71) By far, the best of the monthly swapmeets locally in the Inland Empire.

Last Saturday - TRW (Northrop Grumman) Redondo Beach, CA. What can I say. The legendary swapmeet in Southern California.

The RF Group The RF Group is a group of Hams that enjoy social interaction and fellowship with each other. Ages range from teens to 90's. Generally, most are members of the Riverside County Amateur Radio Association. The only requirement for membership is that you enjoy Ham Radio and don't have a personal agenda you want to impose on others. There are no dues and meetings are held monthly. The group also sponsors a weekly Rag Chew net on 145.520 Mhz simplex every Wednesday evening at 20:30 Local Pacific Time.

The group has been somewhat inactive right now.

Radio Control News

The Club Member Appreciation Fun-Fly was held a couple weeks ago. Everyone had a great time. Good food, Great prizes and Super events.

On June 4th, the Field will be closed for our major maintenance. We will be grading the runway and road, re-dig the drainage swales, repair the bridge and install sturdy Flight Stations. WOW!

Last week, my son, Rob and I picked up a new P-51 Mustang. I just need to install the radio and it's ready to fly. I will put a couple pictures of it up on my RC Picture page.

See the Corona R/C Club link for more information on our Club and the various activities. Also, please view my R/C Picture page.

Keep 'em flying.
